Happy Boxing (boots) Day

I have been wearing my adidas boxing boots for all evening on Christmas day. It is now just past midnight, I am still wearing them, so I would like to wish everyone a Happy Boxing Boots day.

Sunday 20 December 2009

Week 51: busy in boots

Monday: Wore my Doc Martens in work. Changed into my green wellies when I got home. I went out to the shed to retrieve my blue wellies, which I put on the radiator to warm up. When I put them on later, they were lovely and warm. After wearing the blue wellies all evening, I changed into my Lonsdale boxing boots for about an hour.

Tuesday: Green wellies first, when I went outside to empty the bin. Then changed into my Doc Martens (trousers tucked inside the boots) to go to work. Trousers outside the boots when I got to work. When I got home I changed into my blue wellies. Later on, a couple of hours wearing my Lonsdale boxing boots.

On wednesday I started the day wearing my blue wellies, before briefly changing into my green wellies to go outside. After returning the blue wellies to the shed, I changed into my Doc Martens (trousers tucked inside the boots) for my journey to work. As with yesterday, I returned trousers to outside of boots when I got to work. In the evening I changed into my Lonsdale boxing boots again. My girlfriend was away so I decided to sleep in my boots again.

On thursday I decided to keep my Lonsdale boxing boots on and wear them all day

Friday I wore my Doc Martens all day.

At the weekend I wore my green wellies again. I only wore them briefly on saturday but I wore them a bit longer on sunday, when I put them on to go out to the shops.

This was another week when I only wore tall boots. The shortest boots I wore were my Lonsdale boxing boots, which at 13 inches, are still pretty tall.

Sunday 13 December 2009

Week 50: no short boots

I had a week of mostly wearing boxing boots. I had 4 days of wearing my Adidas boxing boots, and 2 days of wearing my doc martens. Today I wore my lonsdale boxing boots for a while, and briefly wore my green wellies too.

Sunday 6 December 2009

Week 49: Another week of Doc Martens

It's been another week of wearing my Doc Martens in work. I wore them for 4 days, and my Gola boxing boots for one day.

At the weekend I spent some time in the garden so I wore my green wellies. Back in the house, I wore my Lonsdale boxing boots for a while.

November Boot Inches

My November boot wearing data gathering is over. I'm not sure what to make of all the numbers I collected. I'll start with a few summaries:

I wore boots for 261 hours, out of a total of 720 hours in the month. I wore lo-tops for only 74 hours, leaving 385 hours when I wore no shoes.

My most-worn boots (in decreasing order):
  • Doc Martens (139 hours)
  • Adidas/Gola boxing boots (combined total 59¼ hours)
  • Vans Sk8-hi (45 hours)
  • Lonsdale boxing boots (8½ hours)
  • Wellies (6½ hours combined for both pairs)
For my overall calculations, I counted lo-tops as zero and no shoes as -2 inches. This meant if I only wore short boots (eg. Converse or Vans) then I would have to be careful to avoid a negative score. Since I wore my Doc Martens and boxing boots so much, there was no danger of that happening.

My total for the month was: 1414 boot-inch-hours. This was equivalent to wearing Converse hi-tops non-stop for 628.5 hours.

The longest continuous period of boot-wearing was 13 hours, which happened on 2 days. Both occasions involved wearing my Doc Martens. The least amount of boot-wearing was 15 minutes. This was one sunday when I didn't leave the house. I briefly wore my Lonsdale boxing boots while I was using my computer, just to avoid having a boot-free day.

I might try the experiment again in the summer. The final total will be lower since I won't be wearing my Doc Martens as much.

Sunday 29 November 2009

Week 48: More Doc Martens

I've been wearing my Doc Martens a lot again. Wore them in work 4 days, and wore my Adidas boxing boots for one day. At the weekend I mainly wore my Vans. I wore my Lonsdale boxing boots a few times in the evening. I'm wearing them at the moment - trousers tucked inside.

Sunday 22 November 2009

Week 47: Doc Martens

It has been cold and/or wet this week so I spent most of the week wearing my doc marten boots. I wore my gola boxing boots for work on the monday but the DMs for the rest of the week. In the evening I briefly wore my Lonsdale boxing boots a couple of times. Since these boots live under my desk at home, I often slip them on while I'm using the computer.

On saturday I did a bit of work in the garden so I wore my green Le Chameau wellies for a while. On sunday I wore my Vans hi-tops for most of the day.

Sunday 15 November 2009

Week 46: Decorating in my wellies

In work, I've been mainly wearing my boxing boots and doc martens.
I have been spending a lot of time up ladders, doing some decorating. I have been wearing a variety of boots to do this: I wore my blue wellies one day, and my 'fake converse' and my lonsdale boxing boots on other days.

Sunday 8 November 2009

week 45: more Doc Martens

It's getting more like winter so that means wearing my Doc Martens more often. I wore my boxing boots for work most days, wearing my DMs a couple of days and also at the weekend. I have decided to wear my Gola boxing boots more often so I have left them in my office and I change into them when I get to work. They still aren't as comfortable as the Adidas Tygun, despite looking like they are based on the same basic shoe. I'll see if they soften up after I've worn them a bit more.

Sunday 1 November 2009

Week 44: boxing boots and wellies.

On monday I wore my Adidas boxing boots in work, and changed into my Lonsdale boots as soon as I got home. I tucked my trousers into the boots and laced them up all the way. Well, nearly all the way. I didn't lace up the top-most eyelet. Either the laces aren't long enough or my legs are a bit too fat. I can lace them up all the way if I don't tuck my trousers into the boots.

On tuesday morning I put my green wellies on to go into the garden, then changed into my new boxing boots, ready to go to work. When I got home I put my blue (indoor) wellies on and wore them for the rest of the evening. The rest of the week followed a similar pattern - Lonsdale boxing boots during the day and wellies in the evening, occasionally wearing my green wellies if I needed to go into the garden.

At the weekend I alternated between wearing my doc martens, blue wellies and boxing boots around the house - trousers tucked into the boots of course.

Saturday 31 October 2009

Boot-Inch-Hours

I have decided to try a new way of measuring how much time I spend wearing my boots. I have measured the height of each of my boots, taking the ankle as the zero point, so the height is the distance above a normal low-top shoe.

My boots range from:
  • Converse high top : 2¼ inches
  • Vans hi-top: 2.5 inches
  • Mid-height boxing boots: 6 inches
  • Lonsdale boxing boots: 10 inches
  • 20 eye Doc martens: 11 inches
  • Blue wellies: 12 inches
  • Green Le Chameau wellies: 14 inches
I measure the number of hours I spend wearing each boot and multiply by the height. Lo-tops count as zero. I am going to try this out as an experiment during November so see what kind of results I get. I I will just wear boots as normal, rather than try to wear taller boots. For the last week I have been doing a bit of a 'preview' of the experiment, but since I spent the last week wearing taller boots, the numbers will be higher.

During the last week I wore nothing shorter than my boxing boots. On monday I wore my adidas boots all day then changed into my Lonsdale boots in the evening - a total of 15 hours and 114 inch-hours (9 hours * 6 inches + 6 hours * 10 inches).

My highest Boot Inch Hours score was 269. This was today, thanks to my 24+ hours of boxing boots which started yesterday morning. I spend all of today wearing taller boots - mostly wellies and doc martens. Simply wearing my boxing boots all day would have scored 240 boot-inch-hours. The highest possible score is 336, which would be if I wore my green wellies for the full 24 hours.

For a bit of comparison, the list below shows how many hours of Converse wearing is equivalent to one hour of my other boots:
  • Vans Hi-Tops : 1.1 hours
  • Mid-height boots: 2.7 hours
  • Lonsdale boots: 4.4 hours
  • Doc Martens: 4.9 hours
  • Blue wellies: 5.3 hours
  • Green wellies: 6.2 hours

40 hours of boots

I have been wearing boots non-stop for 40 hours now. When I got up yesterday I put my blue wellies on while I got ready for work, before putting my Lonsdale boxing boots on.

I wore the boxing boots non-stop for 24 hours, most of the time with trousers tucked into the boots. I started wearing them like that on my journey to work, before pulling the trousers out and wearing them 'normally' in work. Then on my way home I tucked the trousers back in, re-laced the boots, and wore them like that all evening. I decided to keep them on when I went to bed, even tucking the legs of my pyjamas into the boots.

It's been a long time since I wore a pair of boots non-stop for 24 hours - the last time I did that was at University when I wore my Adidas box champ boots from one morning til the next.

I have been wearing my wellies for most of today - ever since I got up this morning and changed out of my boxing boots. I wore my Doc Martens during the evening but during the day I wore my blue wellies around the house, and my green wellies outside. This means I've been wearing boots with trousers tucked inside non-stop for 30 hours, not counting changing from one pair to another.

Monday 26 October 2009

Week 43: a mixed bag of boots

A mixed bag of boot-wearing this week. I wore my Adidas boxing boots for work for a couple of days but wore my Vans quite a lot. I wore my new Lonsdale boxing boots at home one evening. I was out of the house for most of Sunday and wore my green wellies nearly all day.

Sunday 18 October 2009

Week 42: Some thoughts on my new boots.

For the last few weeks I've made sure I've only worn tall boots in work, and I've also worn tall boots a lot at home too. This week was no exception. On Monday I wore both my Adidas boxing boots and my new beautifully tall Lonsdale boxing boots - the latter I wore all day in work, laced up all the way, but with the boots inside the trousers.

Even though I didn't pull the laces tight, the boots still felt quite 'grippy' and tight on my leg. I expect they will get better after I have worn them a bit more. They are wonderfully soft and padded though. They feel really nice with the trousers tucked inside - as I found out when I went for a walk on monday evening.

I didn't wear the new boots for work on tuesday - I wore my Adidas instead - but I wore them briefly in the evening. I wore them all day on wednesday though. I laced them up all the way again. Even though I didn't pull the laces tight - I can easily get my hand between leg and boot - the boot still feels tight on my leg. My legs also got a bit warm and sweaty too.

On wednesday evening I did a bit of work in the garden. My blue wellies have been 'in storage', hidden away in the shed. I decided to put them on while I was outside. It's been ages since I've worn them - back in July.

I wore my Doc Martens for work on thursday but I wore my new boxing boots in the evening.

I wore my new boots for most of saturday - trousers tucked inside so that I could see the full height of the boots at all times - see yesterdays post and accompanying video for details. When I wasn't busy wearing the boxing boots I was wearing my doc martens or wellies.

On sunday I mostly wore my Levi's converse-style boots but I also wore my new boxing boots for a while. This means I wore my new boots for some part of every day this week.

Saturday 17 October 2009

Saturday: boots day

I spent nearly all of today with trousers tucked into boots. When I went out this morning, I was wearing my Doc Martens. When I got home I changed into my new boxing boots.

This afternoon I went into the garden so I wore my green wellies. When I came back into the house, I put my blue wellies on and kept them on until the evening, when I put my Levi's converse-style boots on.

Monday 12 October 2009

Lonsdale Boxing Boots

It was a nice evening when I left work. I had been wearing my new boxing boots all day. I decided to tuck my trousers into my boots as I walked home through the park.

New Facebook Group

I have created a new Facebook group for straight men who love wearing boots. There must be more of us about. I feel like I am part of a very small minority in the boot-wearing and welly-wearing scene.

If there are more boot-loving straight men out there, join my group.

Sunday 11 October 2009

Week 41: Lots of boxing boots

This has been a good week for tall boots. On monday my new boots arrived. I already had put my Adidas boxing boots on in the morning so I changed into my new Lonsdale boots when I got to work and wore them for most of the day.

It rained mid-week so I had a chance to wear my 20 hole Doc Marten boots for work for a few days.

On friday it was cold but dry so I wore my new Lonsdale boots again. I am still impressed by how tall they are. I bought them as a replacement for my ageing Adidas but they feel almost twice as high. The padded leg is very comfortable. I haven't laced them all the way up yet but when I was sitting at my desk, pressing my ankles together, I could feel the tops of the boots rubbing against my legs and it felt really good.

My third and final pair of boxing boots - the Gola boots - also got worn during the week.

On saturday I did a bit of work in the garden so I put my wellies on. I kept them on when I walked to the shops. Later in the day I wore my new boxing boots again.

On sunday I wore my new boxing boots a lot. I put them on in the morning and laced them up.

I also wore them again in the evening, trousers tucked inside, boots laced all the way up. They really are very comfortable to wear this way.

Around mid-day I went out to the shops. It was drizzling so I put my wellies on. I drove to the shops. I think this is the first time I have driven in my current car while wearing wellies. The boots squeaked on the peddles. Unsurprisingly when I got to the supermarket, I was the only person there wearing wellies.

Thursday 8 October 2009

I'd love a pair of these boots

Knee length sheepskin boots, from Celtic Sheepskin. They are available for both men and women. They look a lovely snug fit.

Now with added twitteriness

I have joined Twitter. I don't know whether I'll be twittering much but I can be found at http://twitter.com/WellyWearer.

My new Boxing Boots

I got my new Lonsdale boxing boots today. Here is a photo of me wearing them in my office. I haven't had chance to lace them up properly yet - I'll post photos and videos of that in a few days time.
I've only been wearing the new boots for about half an hour so far. They seem fairly comfortable, they are lightweight and are a good fit. They are also quite a bit taller than I expected - I'm sure they are taller than my old Adidas Box Champ - I think they were about 12 inches from the ground, whereas these are more like 13 inches. Since I love taller boots, this is a good thing.
Unlike the Box Champ, these have a padded shaft. The Adidas were just thin mesh with a padded collar at the top. When I get a chance to lace the up fully, the extra padding on the boot should be nice.

Week 40: Boxing Boots and Wellies

Apart from Monday, when I wore my tall converse-style Levi's boots, I've been wearing my Adidas Tygun boxing boots for work every day during the week.
On Saturday I mostly wore my Vans hi-tops but in the afternoon I put my wellies on and went for a walk. It wasn't wet but it was cold and windy so I thought the boots would be useful against the wind.

Sunday was a better welly day. I was out all day in the countryside with the girlfriend. I put my Vans on to drive there but when we got to our destination, I put on a thick pair of socks to keep my feet warm. This meant I had to put my wellies on because my hi-tops wouldn't fit any more. I wore my wellies for the rest of the day, until it was time to drive home.

Thursday 1 October 2009

My ideal boot collection

This would be my boot collection if I had free reign to buy anything I wanted. Starting from shortest:

I would have to have a pair or two of the classic Converse all-star hi-tops. They are great to wear in the summer.

I would also get a couple of pairs of other ankle boots, probably skate hi-tops or basketball boots. From the age of 16 until my early 20s, I wore basketball boots pretty much all the time.
As an alternative to skate or basketball boots, I might get a pair of low-cut boxing boots. These should be ok to wear with shorts.

Next in height, the tall Converse and mid-cut boxing boots. When I was in my late teens, I had a couple of pairs of converse-style tall boots which I wore as much as possible. I was quite disappointed when they finally fell apart and I couldn't find any more in the shops.

While I'd love a pair of genuine Converse x-hi, they are quite expensive and not easy to find in my size. These boots from Demonia would be a great alternative - and they have zips up the side so they would only take seconds to put on.
I would have to have a pair of mid-cut Adidas boxing boots. I love my old pair of Tygun boxing boots. Since they aren't available any more, I would probably get a pair of the Tygun II boots.

Getting all sensible and practical next, I would get myself a pair of rigger boots. These would be my gardening boots when the weather is too warm to wear wellies. Since these boots are designed to be worn with the trousers tucked inside, I'd be able to wear them like that all the time.

I would have to have some sort of mid-length leather boot, possibly Doc Martens.
Or possibly a Demonia boot.
Next, high-cut boxing boots. I am actually getting a pair of these Lonsdale boots soon.

When I was at university, I had a pair of these Adidas Box Champ. Back then I didn't have the confidence to tuck my trousers into them and wear them in public, but I often wore them like that when I was on my own.

Getting closer to knee-length, there are the ultra-tall Converse-style boots. These boots usually have zips up the side so they will be easy to wear. Demonia have a wide range.

Alternatively, there are these boots from 'Refuse to be usual', on ebay. They come in a wide range of styles:

I would have to get a pair of knee-length or almost knee-length leather lace-up boots. I already have a pair of 20 eyelet Doc Martens, which are as tall as many wellies.

Or there are many different boots available from Demonia.
I would have to get several pairs of wellies. One pair would stay near the back door so I could wear them in the garden. Another pair might live by the front door if I needed to wear a pair when I left the house. A third pair would be kept in the car in case I needed to wear some while I was out. I would probably also keep a 'clean' pair for wearing indoors if I felt like it.
I wouldn't just get traditional rubber wellies. I would also get a few pairs of leather 'country boots'. They would be great to wear inside or outside trousers. I could walk around wearing them and nobody would know I was wearing knee length boots.

Moving higher than knee length, there are some available from 'rtbu'. I wish these were available in my size - they look perfect to me.

Otherwise there are these 'thigh length' boots, which would be fun to wear, and are available in larger sizes.

I have never worn fishing waders but I'd be tempted to get a pair to try. I think I would have to get an 'all in one' pair like the Le Chameau at the bottom of the page. They look like an actual thigh length boot rather than a normal pair of wellies with 'leg extensions'.

Tuesday 29 September 2009

Boots and Yogurt

I am wearing my converse-style boots today. Which is appropriate because so is the strawberry on the yogurt I had for lunch.

The yogurt looks happy - probably because he is wearing boots. The 'Muller Stars' range of yogurts and fromage frais all feature fruit wearing different boots. I wonder if this is some kind of subliminal way of getting kids to wear more boots. I would certainly be in favour of something like that. Anything which improved the selection of boots available in shops would be fine by me. The range of boots available for men is quite poor. There are very few boots between ankle and wellington.

The yogurt was only wearing the short hi-tops whereas I am wearing the taller calf-height boots. Because most of my boots are taller than ankle boots, I sometimes find myself thinking of 'ordinary' hi-tops as lo-tops because they are much lower than the boots I usually wear.

Monday 28 September 2009

Boot Buying Dilemma

Some of my boots are getting a bit old and will need replacing soon. My old Adidas Tygun boxing boots probably don't have long left. I really love those boots - they are incredibly comfortable and I think they look great when I wear them with my trousers tucked inside.
Sadly Adidas don't make these any more. They have replaced them with the Tygun II, which are more expensive. I have been on the lookout for a cheap pair - of either the new or old style, but so far I haven't found any in my price range.

I now need to decide what boots to replace them with. Many years ago I had a pair of Adidas Box Champ, and I really loved the extra height you get with the 'high cut' boots. Sadly Adidas have discontinued those too, and I don't like the look of the Box Champ II as much.

I like the look of these Lonsdale boots - the Lonsdale Jab hi-cut boot. They cost less than I paid for either of my pairs of Adidas boots.
I also love tall converse style boots. So far I only have my Levi's but I would dearly love to have a pair of the Demonia knee-length boots. Since I already own a pair of all black Converse, I could easily wear these interchangeably, and probably nobody would notice.
I wouldn't tuck my trousers into the knee length boots in public but I would certainly enjoy wearing them like that around the house.

If I was going to get a pair of the knee length boots the I would also get a pair of these - they are the same boot but only calf length. The beauty of these is that I feel like I could get away with wearing these with trousers tucked inside.
I think I have fallen in love with the Lonsdale boots. I keep thinking about them, and how I'd love to tuck my trousers inside, lace them up and go for a walk. I have decided to wear my Adidas boots constantly from now on, to wear them out so that I have an excuse to buy some new boots. Then I will probably try to 'wear out' my fake converse so I can buy the Demonia boots.

Sunday 27 September 2009

Week 39: Week of Boxing Boots

It has been another week of wearing tall boots. I have been wearing my boxing boots for some part of every day.

I wore my converse style Levi's boots on monday. At lunchtime I went for a walk in the countryside again. Like last week, I tucked my trousers into my boots.

The rest of the week I wore my adidas boxing boots. I wore the gola boxing boots at home in the evening on a few occasions.

Saturday started with me wearing my Vans sk8-hi but later on I changed into my Gola boxing boots (trousers tucked inside) when I walked to the shops. Sunday was similar - I wore my Vans boots to start with but later in the day I wore my Adidas boots. In the evening I wore my Gola boots for a while.

Friday 25 September 2009

Facebook Wellies

I have been playing some of the 'farming' games on Facebook. Some of them let you customise the avatar. The game called (Lil) Farm life probably offers the best customisation. If you choose to be female, you can choose a lovely pair of boots to wear with trousers tucked inside:

If you choose to be male, you get a nice pair of brown boots but you don't get the option of a pair of boots with trousers tucked inside. Shame really.

Thursday 24 September 2009

Tucking trousers into boots

On monday I went for a walk again, with my trousers tucked inside my boots. I have been doing this more often recently. Normally my boots are 'hidden away' inside the trousers.

Until recently I wouldn't have the confidence to walk around with my boots on show like that - apart from wearing wellies in the winter. For some strange reason it isn't accepted fashion for men to wear tall boots on show, apart from safety boots or similar, and then you need to be wearing suitable clothing or it looks a bit strange.

Many years ago I had a few pairs of the fake tall converse, this time they were made by Hi-Tec. I wore them all the time. When I was on my own I would often tuck my trousers in the boots and lace them up. I only wore them like this once outside, when I walked into town. I just felt too self-concious to wear them like that routinely. These days I often wear my boots like that, but usually only when there is a close to zero chance of bumping into somebody I know.

Monday 21 September 2009

The grass is always greener on the other shoes

I often suffer from a bit of a dilemma. I love wearing boots but I also like skate shoes. I have a few pairs of ordinary 'low top' which I like wearing.

There are days when I am at home, sometimes watching TV in the living room, and one of my pairs of skate shoes are on the floor in front of me. I look at them and think 'they look good, I'd like to be wearing them right now', even if I'm wearing boots. I like wearing skate shoes. I like the look of them. I just like boots even more.

Sometimes when I'm outside, wearing boots, I'll see other people wearing a particularly good pair of skate shoes and wish I had a pair like them. Then there are days when I'm out wearing my skate shoes. If I see anyone wearing hi-top skate shoes or basketball boots then I'll immediately wish I was wearing my boots.

If I didn't like skate shoes then this wouldn't be a problem. I could just wear boots all the time. The trouble is if I only had boots then I would occasionally want skate shoes.

Sunday 20 September 2009

Week 38: welly time again

On monday I wore my Vans hi-tops.

Tuesday was a good tall boots day. I wore my Levi's boots for work, then changed into my Gola boxing boots when I got home. Later in the evening I wore my Le Chameau wellies for a while.

On Thursday I wore my 'fake converse' boots for work and in the evening I briefly wore my wellies again.

On Wednesday and Friday I wore my doc martens for work. On both days I went for a walk at lunchtime, around the fields near work. I tucked my trousers into the boots and walked through the long grass.

On Saturday I started off wearing my old black & white converse but changed into my gola boxing boots when I went out. I tucked my trousers inside and laced them up all the way. It was quite a warm day so my ankles got a bit sweaty.

Today is another warm day so it's short trousers and boots. I have been wearing my Vans sk8-hi for most of the day.

Tuesday 8 September 2009

Week 37: mostly tall boots

I've been wearing tall boots for most of the week. I started off wearing my adidas boxing boots on monday. Next I wore my Levi's 'fake converse x-hi' on tuesday. It was warm when I got home on tuesday so I changed into short trousers but kept the boots on. Later on tuesday evening it was getting a bit colder so I decided I wanted something covering my legs, so I put my wellies on for a while.

Wednesday I was back in my Levi's boots, then on thursday it was turn of the adidas boxing boots again. Thursday evening I got another chance to wear my Le Chameu wellies again. They are lovely boots but I wish I could wear my blue wellies more often. They are hiding in the store cupboard - I don't think my girlfriend knows about them so I don't wear them when she is around.

Friday I was wearing my adidas boots again.

Saturday was warm and sunny so I found myself wearing my black and white converse boots. On sunday I managed to wear my wellies - I'm wearing them right now while I write this. It has been a good week for wellies - I wore mine 3 times this week.

Friday 4 September 2009

Week 36: brief welly time

I realised that I hadn't worn my wellies for ages so I briefly pulled my Le Chameau on and wore them around the house on friday evening and again tonight. On friday I wore them with my trousers tucked inside. Tonight I'm wearing them inside my trousers. It's good to feel the boots against my legs again.

The rest of the week was mainly just wearing hi-top boots (Vans and Levi's fake converse x-hi) and although I wore my doc martens for work one day.

Sunday 30 August 2009

Week 35 - assortment of hi-tops

I mostly wore my taller hi-tops this week: Levis red tab, adidas and gola boxing boots. I wore one pair of 'low' hi-tops: my Vans sk8-hi.

Sunday 23 August 2009

Week 34: Week of hi-tops

I have been wearing my vans and my converse hi-tops almost exclusively this week. I wore my gola boxing boots a couple of times at home. It's been quite warm most of the week so it's been short trousers and boots all the time.

Sunday 16 August 2009

Week 33: assorted hi-tops for work

No doc martens this week - it's been a bit warm and there hasn't been as much heavy rain. I've been wearing various pairs of hi-tops this week for work: Vans sk8-hi, Levi's red tab, adidas boxing boots and my old pair of black & white converse. The latter are becoming even more tatty - a hole has appeared in the toe of one of them. It will soon be time to replace them with a shiny new pair.

At the weekend I wore my gola boxing boots and my Vans around the house.

Sunday 9 August 2009

Week 32: All kinds of weather

The week has been a bit varied. Some days of rain so I got to wear my doc martens a couple of times. Some sunny warm days so I wore my black and white converse. I also wore my Vans hi-tops a few times, and occasionally wore my boxing boots around the house.

Sunday 2 August 2009

Week 31: Wrong boots for rain

I wore my 'fake converse' Levi's boots for work one day this week but it rained and my feet got wet, so I wore my doc martens the day after. I wore my Vans for a few days too. I'm wearing my gola boxing boots right now.

Sunday 26 July 2009

Week 30: Vans and Doc Martens week.

Mainly wore my Vans and Doc Martens for work. Briefly wore my boxing boots at the weekend.

Sunday 19 July 2009

Week 29: Boxing boots and wellies

I had a few days to myself this week so I had plenty of opportunity to wear my wellies. I wore both pairs several times.

I wore my boxing boots for work every day this week - my adidas boots most days but I wore my gola boots one day.

Wednesday 15 July 2009

Gola Boxing Boots

I wore my Gola boxing boots in work today. This is the first time I've worn them all day - normally I only wear them for an hour or so at home. They are definitely getting more comfortable as I wear them more often.
When I got home I changed into my blue wellies. It was quite warm in the house so I changed into short trousers, but kept my wellies on of course. My blue wellies are really quick and easy to take off and put back on. They are quite wide at the top so I can put them on by simply stepping into them, rather than having to pull them on. I prefer a snug fitting boot but it's useful to have a wider pair which can be put on very quickly.

Shopping In My Wellies

This morning I was doing some work in the garden, wearing my wellies of course. I then walked to the shops to buy something for lunch. The route I had in mind took me through an old 'village green' and past some 17th century cottages. For some reason I always wanted to walk this route wearing my wellies so today I decided to leave the wellies on when I walked to the shops. It is only a mile each way to the shops but by the time I got back home, my legs were a bit warm and sweaty.

Week 28: An assortment of boots

The week started off with me wearing my converse hi-tops but the weather got wetter. On tuesday I decided to wear my adidas boxing boots but when I noticed that it was raining quite hard, I changed into my doc martens.

I had a second day of wearing my doc martens then got to wear my boxing boots properly towards the end of the week when the weather started to improve. The working week ended with me wearing my Levi's Fake Converse boots. I was back to wearing my Vans hi-tops at the weekend.

Week 27: Shorts and Converse

The heatwave continues so I've been wearing my shorts and my converse hi-tops all week. Friday started off cold and wet so I wore long trousers and my tall Levi's boots but by late afternoon I was too warm. As soon as I got home I changed back into shorts and my black and white converse. I also wore my vans hi-tops at the weekend.

Half way through the year

My year of boot wearing is half over now. I have enjoyed it so far. I thought I would give a bit of a summary of the first 6 months. I have been keeping track of how often I have worn each of my boots, even if I only wore them for a few minutes, such as pulling on a pair of wellies to go into the garden.

My Vans Sk8-Hi have seen the most use. They are a very versatile pair of boots: comfortable, ideal to wear with both long and short trousers, and suitable for both cold/wet and warm/sunny weather. I bought them about 3 years ago in a sale. They were very cheap, under £10, so I couldn't walk away without buying them.

The second most popular boots have been my doc martens. These are also my second oldest boots. I can't remember how long ago I bought them but it must be about 15 years ago or longer. Since I love wearing tall boots, I usually wear these whenever the weather is looking a bit grim.

There was a surprising tie for third place: My gola boxing boots and my Le Chameau green wellies. I occasionally wear the boxing boots in the evening. They spend most of their time under my computer desk so I usually slip them on when I'm working at my computer. My green wellies move around a lot. They sometimes spend a few weeks in the kitchen next to the back door, which means I can easily slip them on when I go to the garden. They can sometimes spend weeks in the boot of the car or in the store room near the front door.

Fifth place was also a tie, this time between my adidas boxing boots and my Levi's red tag 'fake tall converse'. These are boots which I tend to wear exclusively for work. They are very comfortable to wear when I am in the office. They were only a couple of 'points' behind third place.

The other boots, in order, are:
  • Black and White Converse. My oldest boots, almost 20 years old.
  • Blue Wellies. My newest boots. I still haven't reached the £1 per use mark yet.
  • Maroon Converse.
  • Black Converse.

Above: pie chart showing how often I have worn each of my boots.
Below: pie chart showing the different types of boots and how often I wore them. Wellies and Doc Martens count as knee length. Mid length include the boxing boots and Levi's boots. Vans and Converse make up the ankle boots. I was pleased to see that most of my boot wearing has been taller boots.

Week 26: more Converse weather

It has been fairly warm again so I mostly wore my Converse boots for work. I wore my adidas boxing boots for one day though.

At the weekend I wore my Vans Sk8-hi and my Gola boxing boots.

Week 25: Wellies Revisited

In the last 7 weeks, I've only had chance to wear my wellies once. I managed to remedy that this week and have had the opportunity to wear both pairs of wellies a couple of times during the week. On one occasion I was in the garden, doing some weeding. I was standing up, tending to some pots and the sun came out. The backs of my legs, in my wellies, started to get quite warm. It was a very pleasant feeling.

It has also been a good week for boxing boots. I wore my adidas boots for work a couple of times and wore my gola boots around the house a few times. When it was a bit warm in the evening, I changed into my shorts and wore my gola boxing boots. I normally wear them with the laces loose so I can easily slip them on and off. Today I laced up all the way. I didn't pull the laces tight so I could feel the boot moving against my ankle. I think that is part of what I love about boots. I think they look great but I also love the feel of them against my leg. If I crouch down and the back of the boot presses against my thigh, then that feels amazing. I really don't know why I enjoy it so much.

How I usually wear my Gola boxing boots - with the laces loose so I can slip them on easily.
Wearing the boots with my 'long shorts'. The laces have been pulled tighter so the boots are a snug fit rather than loose.

I also wore my Levi's boots and my old black and white converse in work. They are both looking a bit old and have a few holes in them so I may have to replace them later in the year. Boots like these do last for ages though so there are probably many more months of wear left in them.
